FAQ Answers

Who is Charlene Meyers?
I am a Hawaii transplant from Pennsylvania, the retired owner of a catering firm, mother of four and grandmother of three. My first visit to Hawaii was in 1975 and it was love at first sight. Ten years later my husband Amos and I decided to retire to the Big Island of Hawaii. We purchased land in 1992, and the big move happened on February 28, 2001.
My love of photograghy grew with the time I now had in retirement and the beauty of Hawaii, its people and culture to further inspire me. A hobby has grown into what you see here.
I currently volunteer for many community events. I am a Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Volcano; previous to that, Amos and I received the Rotary Volunteer of the Year Award for 2003.
I have put in over 3000 hours as a Volunteer Ranger at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park beginning in January 2002. In that position I lead hikes into Kilauea Crater and lava tubes, and am at the lava eruption site, in addition to helping visitors at the visitors center.

What photo equipment does Charlene Meyers use?
Charlene uses a Canon Digital 20D capturing photos at 8.2 megapixel resolution, and a Canon Digital Rebel 300D at 6.3 megapixels. The quality is so fantastic that we guarantee it. Some older photos were taken with a Canon Elan II and scanned at high resolution. Her lenses are all Canon plus one Tamron.

Where has Charlene's work appeared?
Most recently my photos were featured in the Honolulu Star-Bulletin and as the Top Story on KGMB9 News. My lava photographs accompanied a feature article in Odyssey Magazine (December 2004). I captured a glory from the summit of Mauna Kea that appeared in the Gallery section of Sky & Tel Magazine (May 2005). My picture of world-renowned volcanologist and astronomer Stephen James O'Meara was chosen for his inaugural column in Astronomy Magazine (March 2007). Two of my images from the lunar eclipse on October 27, 2004 are on the Astroday website (www.astroday.net). I also shot full spreads on commission for VolksWorld Magazine (June 2004) and Hot VWs Magazine (November 2004).

My work is also featured for sale in many local gift shops, hotels, and museums.

No! Only the levels have been changed, to make the image brighter or darker. Nothing has been added, and the amazing colors are pure Hawaii!
